Meet the Star Gazers Sanctuary

Wow! Do you live in a larger city that hides the stars at night becuse of all the night lights? Well…meet Tepako, New Zealand that has preserved their star “lights”. The city doesn’t use flood lights and all lights such as street and household shine downward. In addition, sodium lights are used and no outdoor lights from 11 pm until sunrise. One thing to remember is that our eyes adjust pretty fast to the darkness. Hence, starlight and moonlight alone along with car lights should fare well to light their way at night.

They have provided an interactive chart that shows what they see of the constellations throughout the year. This is a chart that changes with the seasons, you just tell it the period, month and the time. Enjoy!
